About Me
I attended a year-long massage training at the Brenneke School of Massage (now Cortiva Institute,) graduating in August of 2001. I loved my time there and grew tremendously as a person as well as learning the "how" of massage. The following winter I visited Bellingham, and knew immediately that I wanted to be there, so I opened my own practice - Waxing Moon Massage Therapy.
While in Bellingham, I attended Fairhaven College at Western Washington University and graduated in June of 2006 with a degree in Language, Culture and Healing. After spending a couple years doing massage and working as a caregiver with low-income people with HIV/AIDS, my next academic goal is to earn a Master's degree in Nursing from Seattle University and become a nurse practitioner. My hope is to continue doing massage throughout my life, and to augment the joy it brings with the satisfaction of working in other ways to improve the lives of people I care for.
One way I improve my own life is through running. It began with a timid run-walk around Lake Padden, and has become the main thing that I do entirely for myself - a time for relaxing and thinking and allowing myself to stop thinking. While I am especially delighted to find travellers and runners in my office, I also love that I get to meet such a variety of interesting people. From ultrarunners to people who spend most of their waking hours in front of computers, moms-to-be and parents-who-have-been, it makes me happy to know that whatever else is going on in my clients' lives, I get to be involved in making them healthier, happier, more relaxed and more connected.
As hard as it was to turn over the keys to my little office in Bellingham, I am delighted to be ringing in 2009 with a new space in the Ballard Health Center. In addition to fantastic amenities, (whirlpool and shower available, water and wood stove in the reception area, etc.,) the space is warm and cozy, and the environment is one of calm and comfort. The Ballard Health Center feels like a quiet eddy in the already relative calm of Ballard, which is great for people like me who want to live in Seattle but have a little room to breathe. I'm rapidly succumbing my new neighbors' fervent adoration of Ballard, and am excited to be joining the community of local businesses.
